Understanding Anxiety & How Hypnotherapy Helps

Anxiety is the mind and body's threat response — it evolved to keep us safe. But when it becomes chronic, it starts to feel like the enemy. Racing thoughts, a sense of dread, physical tension, disrupted sleep — anxiety can make even ordinary days feel exhausting.

Solution-focused hypnotherapy doesn't focus on endlessly analysing the past. Instead, it works with how your brain processes threat and safety in the present, helping to reduce the anxiety response and strengthen the neural pathways associated with calm, confidence and control.

Grounded in neuroscience, this approach draws on the latest understanding of how the brain creates and maintains anxiety patterns — and how those patterns can be changed. Research by Spiegel et al. (2016) demonstrated that hypnosis can genuinely alter brain connectivity, reducing stress responses at a neurological level.

Types of Anxiety I Work With

Generalised Anxiety

Persistent worry about everyday situations — work, relationships, health, the future. Hypnotherapy helps calm the anxiety cycle and build a steadier baseline.

Panic Attacks

The sudden surge of intense fear can feel overwhelming. We work to understand your personal triggers, reduce the nervous system's reactivity and build confidence in your ability to manage.

Social Anxiety

Fear of judgement, embarrassment or social situations. Hypnotherapy and NLP work together to replace fearful anticipation with calm, confident expectation.

Health Anxiety

Excessive worry about illness and physical symptoms. Working gently and without judgment, we reduce the catastrophic thought patterns that amplify health fears.

Work & Performance Anxiety

Imposter syndrome, fear of failure, presentation anxiety — we build the internal confidence and resilience to perform at your best in professional settings.

Phobias

Specific fears — flying, needles, spiders, heights and more. Using a combination of NLP and hypnotherapy, phobias can often be significantly reduced in just a few sessions.

What to Expect in Sessions

My approach to anxiety is warm, non-judgmental and forward-focused. You don't need to relive traumatic experiences — we work towards the calm, confident life you want to create.

Psychoeducation

Understanding why your brain creates anxiety — and how it keeps the cycle going — is itself empowering. Knowledge reduces the fear of anxiety.

Cognitive & NLP Techniques

Reframe the thoughts and beliefs that feed anxiety. Replace worst-case thinking with proportionate, balanced responses to life's challenges.

Deep Hypnotherapy Relaxation

Reach a deeply calm, focused state where positive suggestions help recalibrate your nervous system and build new, healthier responses to stress.

Skills for Everyday Life

You'll leave with breathing techniques, self-hypnosis, grounding practices and other tools you can use between sessions and long after therapy ends.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I need for anxiety?

Anxiety is usually best addressed over a course of sessions. Most clients begin to notice meaningful improvement within 3–6 sessions. We review progress regularly and adapt the plan to your needs and goals.

Will hypnotherapy work for severe anxiety?

Hypnotherapy can be very helpful for anxiety at all levels of intensity. However, if you are experiencing severe or clinical anxiety, it is important to also be working with your GP or a mental health professional. Hypnotherapy can work well alongside other treatment approaches.

Is it possible to be hypnotised if I'm anxious?

Yes — in fact, the calm, relaxed state of hypnotherapy is particularly beneficial for anxious minds. You won't lose control or do anything you don't want to do. You'll remain fully aware throughout the session.

Can sessions be online?

Yes. Online sessions via Zoom are very effective, and many anxious clients find it easier to relax in the familiar surroundings of their own home. Sessions are available both in person in Reigate, Surrey and online.

Do I need to know the cause of my anxiety?

No. Solution-focused hypnotherapy doesn't require you to identify a root cause or explore the past in depth. We focus on where you want to be, and build the internal resources to get there.
